State Hasn’t Contacted Weitsman on Coronavirous Assistance
A Vestal businessman says he has received no response from state officials to his offer to make the Davis College campus available to help deal with the COVAD-19 pandemic.
Ten days ago, Adam Weitsman made an offer to allow local, state or federal officials to utilize the campus on Riverside Drive in Johnson City.
Weitsman Thursday said he had been in touch with Broome County elected officials and local hospital representatives about the offer. But, he said, so far no one has expressed an interest in preparing to use the site.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced earlier in the day that the number of coronavirus deaths in New York state had increased to 385 people. He said 100 people had died in a 24-hour period.
Weitsman said he is hoping officials will get in touch with him so the former Davis College property can be prepared in case its needed.
During his daily briefing, Cuomo said steps were being taken to make upstate facilities available when the needed downstate sites run out of space. The governor provided no specific information about sites now being considered.
