Back in the day, one easy way to get noticed in Hollywood was to be in a horror movie. Actors can thank Hitchcock and Boris Karloff for that. You would be surprised at the A list celebrities that did just that. Here are a few examples out of the 40 plus that I found.

    John Travolta

Travolta appeared in the movie "Devils Rain" in 1975 and apparently made an impression because the next year he was in the blockbuster "Carrie." The rest is history!

    Johnny Depp

Nightmare on Elm Street. This was Johnny's feature film debut. It ended in him being one of Freddy's victims. Depp went to the auditions to support a friend and ended up being cast as Glenn. He beat out Thomas C.Howell, Charlie Sheen, and others for the role.

    Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Before she became Elaine Benes, the fabulous Ms. Julia was in the 1986 creepfest "Troll". I just saw this a couple months ago. Gross movie! Humorous note: two characters were named Harry Potter in the movie (a father and son)!

    George Clooney

Before he was in "Roseanne" or even the 1984 sitcom E/R (not to be confused with ER), George Clooney was in "Return to Horror High"! Yes, his character gets killed.

    Ben Affleck

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" not only launched Ben, but Hilary Swank too. Affleck was cast as "basketball player #10", an uncredited role.

    He had to start somewhere!

    Charlize Theron

This classy actress was over her head in corn for her first big role in "Children of the Corn 3". Like Ben Affleck, she had a walk on "unnamed woman" uncredited role.
