Southern Tier Vaccine Coordinator Launches Vax-Finder Site
United Health Services has launched a website to help people track down COVID-19 vaccination locations.
The site is www.nyuhs.org/southerntiervax. and lists pharmacies, hospitals and healthcare providers county-by-county and how to make an appointment.
UHS is the Southern Tier region’s coordinator for vaccinations.
Broome County Health Department officials have commented that many times they don’t get word in advance when pharmacies in the region get the vaccine or how many shots they have been allocated.
County, state and retail locations for vaccinations are finding their appointments for eligible populations quickly fill up. Often appointments for hundreds of doses of vaccine are snapped up in a matter of minutes.
Currently, essential workers in groups 1a and 1b as well as residents age 65 and over are eligible. Last week, Governor Andrew Cuomo said he would also be opening up availability for other residents with underlying health concerns. The supply of the vaccines allocated to the state and localities, however, continues to be the issue.
