Summertime construction and road work continue throughout the Southern Tier of New York. It can be frustrating at times with delays, but this work is necessary, and as motorists, we'll be happy driving on a smooth road.

As a reminder, here are some ongoing projects and some new and ongoing road work projects to be aware of before heading out to whatever your daily destinations may be.

Binghamton

  • Ongoing work on the Court Street Bridge area Downtown, with one lane closed.
  • Ongoing work on the Washington Street/Henry Street area Downtown.

Johnson City

  • Roadway Milling project on North Arch Street, North Baldwin Street, North Harrison Street, Fairfax Avenue, Miller Street, and Fairview Street. Sections of Harry L Drive will also be affected at times.  Milling Work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on August 29th. Village Personnel is asking that all parked cars be removed from the roadway during this Construction Project. Roadways and driveway access will be open at the end of each working day. Expect delays due to road closures and detours. Flaggers and Traffic personnel will be on site to assist local traffic.
  • Beginning August 25th and continuing through mid-October, a construction project for concrete curb and road work at the Intersection of Main Street at Avenue C / Willow Street, and around 50 feet in all directions of the intersection, will be in place. Parking on Main Street will be affected. Parked cars will need to be removed from the road work area by 6 a.m. on working days. Expect traffic delays.  Access to Businesses on Main Street will remain open.
  • Continuing work on Route 201 northbound area of the Town of Union; the Town of Vestal Line 1 lane may be of 2 lanes blocked for soundwall removal and replacement on 201 NB at Riverside Drive Exit. Day work is from 7 am to 5 pm with no lane closures. The shoulder is closed with a pedestrian detour in place.

Broome County

  • Paving on Stateline Road – County Route 225 from Old Route 17 to the Pennsylvania Line.
  • Cleaning ditches and rebuilding shoulders on Colesville Road, Owen Hill Road, South Street & Old State Road.
  • Culvert work on Old State Road, Stratmill Road, Hyde Street & Owen Hill Road.
  • Grader patching on Park Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue/Hawleyton Road, and Old State Road.
  • Surface treatment on Kent Street/Trim Street – County Route 32, and Fox Farm Road – County Route 28
  • Mowing right-of-way and Painting on several county roads

Tioga County

  • Continuing work on Interstate 81/Route 17 in Tioga County around Apalachin, with the construction section narrowed to one lane of traffic for east and west travel.

Please use caution in work zones, even when they are not active, as some may be modified as construction progresses. Let's keep our road construction workers safe, as well as other motorists and you, too!

Slow down, give yourself extra time during commutes to accommodate any detours or changes in traffic patterns.
