Proceeds from the walk go to benefit the American Heart Association to help in the fight against heart disease and stroke.  Last year over $300,000 was raised with this year's goal set for $380,000.  Heart disease remains the nation's number one killer with stroke number five.

The chairperson for this year's Southern Tier Heart Walk is John Carigg, President and CEO of UHS.  At a kickoff reception for organizers and sponsors held on Thursday night Carigg urged local businesses to get involved in supporting the Heart Association by forming teams and making contributions.
