Forecasters say an Arctic cold front will generate scattered snow showers and squalls from mid afternoon through evening March 5. Snow squalls could cause brief bursts of localized heavy snow, very low visibilities, and gusty winds as well as a quick coating of snow on roadways to make them slick.

Residents who have to be outside will also be encountering below zero wind chill values.

If you are headed north to Syracuse over the next few days, travel could be even more difficult.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from 11 p.m. March 5 to 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7 in Onondaga and Madison Counties for heavy, lake effect snow accumulating a possible 6 to 12 inches. Snow potential is the highest from Baldwinsville through greater Syracuse to Cazenovia and Chittenango, as well as the New York Thruway.
