A Johnson City firefighter was hurt battling a blaze that tore through a single-family house.

Authorities say the fire at 424 Oakdale Road was reported around 1 a.m. Sunday.

Four adults and two children who were in the home when the blaze broke out escaped safely but at least two dogs died.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, the rear of the two-story wood-frame structure was engulfed in flames.

Siding on a garage that is more than 20 feet from the house was melted by the intense fire.

The blaze was brought under control after 45 minutes, although firefighters continued to extinguish hot-spots for several hours.

The injured firefighter was treated at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City and released.

The Red Cross assisted the residents in obtaining temporary housing.
