Several agencies were sent to the Susquehanna River in Endicott to search for a person who may have been in the water.

Endicott police were dispatched to the river in the area of the Vestal Avenue bridge and Mersereau Park at 1:49 a.m. Tuesday.

A few minutes later, fire departments were alerted to launch a search of the river from the bridge to Grippen Park in West Endicott.

At a command post at the park, Broome County fire coordinator Jeff Buckler said three boats had been utilized to search the water.

Buckler said in addition to a surface search of the river, a drone aircraft from the county Office of Emergency Services was used. The drone is equipped with thermal imaging gear.

The initial river search was suspended around 4:30 a.m. It was expected to resume later in the morning.

Endicott police declined to comment about the investigation.
