Saints Fall in NYHSPHSAA Boys Championship Game

The Seton Catholic Central Saints boys basketball team fell to Mekeel Christian Academy in the NYSPHSAA Championship finals last (Saturday) night at the Floyd L Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.  Mekeel takes home the title with a 42-37 victory.  Smothering defense was the name of the game on both sides.

Mekeel held the Saints to just 27 percent shooting making 14 of 52 shots. Seton went 7-21 from three-point range.  For Mekeel it was just enough to produce a victory.  They shot 35 percent from the field and made 8 of 25 three-point tries.

Leo Gallagher, the Saints prolific leader, played almost the entire game shadowed expertly by Mekeel's senior guard Jordan Jackson.  Gallagher still was able to lead Seton in scoring hitting for 17 points. Carter Stewart paced Mekeel with 14 points including a 4-8 showing from three-point range.  Stewart is the brother of Binghamton Bearcat Caleb Stewart.  Stewart was named the Most Valuable Player in the Class B Final Four.

The loss ends the Saints season  with a record of 23-3.  Mekeel moves to 24-3 and will play next weekend in the New York State Federation Championships in Glens Falls against Regis High School, winners of the Catholic High School Athletic Association crown.
