Former Binghamton mayor Matthew Ryan is still considering a campaign to return to City Hall.

Ryan, who had been living in Tompkins County, last fall announced he would return to Binghamton and that he intended to get involved in local politics again. At that time, he said he wasn't ruling out the possibility he would again run for mayor.

During an appearance on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program on Monday, Ryan said he's been weighing another campaign. He said he's been having conversations with some city residents who have encouraged him to run.

Although he has resided outside Binghamton during some periods of his life, Ryan said he continues to consider the city as his home town.

Ryan served two four-year terms as mayor. He could not run for reelection in 2013 because of a term-limit law.

Ryan said "hundreds upon hundreds of people" have encouraged him to run this year. He acknowledged Mayor Richard David, who has said he intends to seek a second term, would be hard to defeat. Ryan said it "would be a difficult campaign."

Ryan said he expected to decide on whether to run within 60 days.

During a radio interview last October, Mayor David indicated he doubted Ryan would be a candidate. David said: "I don't think he's that crazy and I'm certainly not that lucky."
