For just the second time in the past six seasons the Binghamton Rumble Ponies failed to make the Eastern League playoffs.  The Ponies ended their season with an afternoon game on Labor Day at NYSEG Stadium.  The Portland Sea Dogs defeated the Rumble Ponies 8-7 in eleven innings.  Denier Lopez hit a two-run home run in the eleventh inning  to provide the winning margin.

The two teams opened the season at NYSEG Stadium on April 5th in 35 degree temperatures.  Yesterday temperatures soared to 92 degrees on the NYSEG Stadium display board.

The Rumble Ponies finish with a record of 64-76.  Binghamton ends the season in fifth place in the Eastern Division...15 games behind first place Trenton.

Binghamton fans now set their sights on April 4th, 2019 when the Rumble Ponies open their season in Manchester, New Hampshire versus the Fisher Cats.

The Eastern League playoffs begin tomorrow (Wednesday) night.   In the Eastern Division Trenton won the regular season championship and will meet New Hampshire in the semifinal round.  The series opens in New Hampshire.

The Western Division champion Altoona Curve face Akron in the other semifinal round.  They open play tomorrow night in Akron.  The winners meet for the overall Eastern League championship.  Both the semifinals and championship rounds are best-of-five series.
