The Broome County Division of Solid Waste Management wants you to avoid throwing out your old shoes, no matter how badly the puppy chewed them up.

The County is reminding residents to donate all unwanted footwear, clothing, towels, single socks and even underwear and don’t put it in the trash.

Outlets and accepted items can be found listed at www.gobroomecounty.com/solidwaste.

Officials say the items accepted vary by charitable organization.

Some items can be reused while other items can be recycled into other products like home insulation or carpet padding.

Statistics show the average American puts 70 pounds of clothing, footwear or textiles into landfills every year even though 95% could be reused or repurposed.
