Raging Fire Destroys Two-Family Binghamton Home
A fast-moving blaze tore through a large house on Binghamton's North Side early Tuesday morning.
Shortly after police and fire units arrived, there was a report that one man was missing. He was located outside the burning building a short time later.
A city police officer was taken to Lourdes Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Most of the fire in the lower portion of the two-story house was knocked down after 30 minutes. Firefighters continued to pour water on flames that consumed the attic portion of the structure.
Crime scene tape sealed off the area near the blaze.
The Red Cross was called to assist those who were displaced by the fire.
Chenango Street was closed between Morgan and Sturges streets due to the firefighting operation. The street was reopened to traffic shortly before 7 a.m.
