Police Seeking Suspect in Killing of Binghamton Man

Binghamton police detectives are investigating a homicide in the city's First Ward.

The body of 60-year-old Anthony Cebula was found inside a residence at 1 Chelsea Square.

City police were sent to the townhouse just north of Dickinson Street around 9 p.m. Monday.

Detective Captain Cory Minor said a family member directed officers to a second floor bedroom where Cebula's body was located.

Minor said the body showed signs of physical trauma. There were indications someone had tried to set a fire at the scene.

Investigators believe Cebula's killer was an acquaintance. Minor said it was "not a random act." He said detectives have identified a suspect but he would not release that person's name.

No arrests had been made in the case as of Wednesday afternoon.

Minor said an autopsy had been performed at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton. He declined to release results of the autopsy.
