The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is working with a contractor to jump-start work to clear a landslide that has closed a portion of Route 414 in Bradford County since early December.

For now, a detour using Canton Cross Road, Southside Road and Route 414 in Leroy Township will continue.

The earth in the area of the intersection with Jennings Road was loosened by heavy rainfall last summer.

PennDOT had originally planned to start the work this spring with the reopening in the fall but the condition of the slide forced the early closure of a portion of the road.

It’s now hoped the road can reopen this summer.  Stream realignment started last month and is continuing.

Officials say fixing the slide is expected to cost $2.2 million.
