A leader in a drug ring that moved hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine cross country into Broome County will be sentenced in February after being convicted of federal drug trafficking and money laundering charges.

After four days of testimony, a Federal Jury has convicted 43 year old Alonzo Harris of Arizona in connection with a raid in the Southern Tier over a year ago dubbed “Operation Hailstorm” that resulted in 10 arrests.  The investigation into the trafficking of crystal meth in the region lasted two years prior to the raid last year.

Harris was accused of orchestrating the mailing of more than 50 multi-pound packages of drugs from Phoenix, Arizona to Broome County to be distributed to dealers and users and over one and a half pounds of crystal meth was confiscated during the searches of September 20, 2017 alone.

The nine other suspects from Binghamton, Endicott and Johnson City* had pleaded guilty prior to Harris’ trial in Federal Court in Syracuse.

Harris faces at least ten years in federal prison.
