On Line Child Predators on the Rise

Children are spending more time on line, FBI and Homeland Security warns parents of increased risk of sexual predators.

We live in a world filled with technology capable of connecting us to anyone on the planet, and its easy to assume that our children are smart enough to know the good from the bad.

The pandemic has forced most of us to spend more time on line and that goes for our children.

A press release from the US Attorney’s office says it is essential that parents, guardians, educators and trusted adults know the risks and how to prevent exploitation.

Sexual predictors have no borders, they could be down the block, or on the other side of the planet, some of these crimes transcend boundaries.

Acting Attorney General Antoinette T. Bacon says the internet can be intimidating, but in this case, ignorance is not bliss.”

Make sure you know what your children are doing while on the computer, phone, tablet, or any device connected to the internet.

Do not assume all is well, the cyber world is filled with very scary, and creepy individuals, who prey on and manipulate children, it is essential that parents, guardians, educators and trusted adults know the risks and how to prevent exploitation.

If you’re a parents or guardian, talk to your kids about what sites are safe, and encourage them share any pictures or messages they receive.

Showing your child that you are concerned and care about them will make them want to come to you and will go along way in keeping them safe.

The most important thing is prevention and there are many resources available to help you.
