Renovations are underway at the three-story building at 65 Front Street. The site is between Main and Leroy streets.

The city last September warned the owners of Travel Hotel and Suites that action could be taken under the Lockdown Law after a series of drug-related incidents.

The building recently was sold and the final ten people who had been living there moved out in May.

Workers have been repainting and installing new flooring as the property is converted to a 135-room student housing facility. It will be known as "Classic on Front."

According to Broome County property records, the site was sold in late May by Raja Properties LLC for $2,590,000.

Plans for the new student housing complex call for exercise rooms, on-site laundry and work study areas.

Businesses such as a convenience store and a restaurant also may be developed on the street level.

The first students are expected to move in to the building on August 22.
