A City of Cortland police officer was shot three times last (Friday) night after responding to a domestic disturbance at 12 Elm Street in the city.  According to radio station X101 the shooter has been identified as 26 year-old Zachary Clark.

Police claim the unidentified officer was shot multiple times as he approached the residence after responding to a 9 1 1 call.  The report states the police officer was hit at least three times in the lower body.  The officer escaped the front door area and took cover behind his marked vehicle. Police report the alleged shooter continued to fire at the wounded officer until a Cortland County Sheriff's Department deputy arrived on the scene and returned fire forcing the shooter inside the house.

X101Radio reports Clark and police remained in a standoff until shortly after 8 AM Saturday. Clark finally exited the residence and was taken into custody.  He was being treated for an upper body gunshot wound.  No condition was reported.  The wounded police officer was treated and released from Upstate Medical Center.

Cortland Police report Clark will be arraigned on numerous charges including:

Assault in the First Degree, Aggravated Assault on a police officer or peace officer and Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree.
