NYSEG Continues to Squash Power Problems Following Bomb Cyclone

New York State Electric and Gas is keeping an eye on weather conditions following over 24 hours of work for crews repairing downed power lines in the region.

The nor‘easter or "bomb cyclone", depending what extreme weather term you’re fond of, at one time impacted over 37,000 NYSEG customers from mid-day October 16 through Thursday evening.  High wind gust exceeding 30 miles an hour were still being recorded into October 18.

NYSEG says its Binghamton, Brewster and Plattsburgh divisions experienced the most significant impact.  In the Southern Tier, that included Broome, Chenango and Tioga Counties although hundreds of customers in Delaware County were without power into late morning yesterday.

The utility added on more contract line and tree crews in case they were needed to respond to more outages.

The heavy rains have passed and winds were forecast to die down into the weekend.

Even with the passing of the storm, NYSEG reminds residents to use caution when traveling and leave tree removal to professionals since power lines could be entangled in debris
