NYS Special Olympics Fall Games Return to Glens Falls
The Special Olympics will return for the fall games in New York State, after a six year absence, the dates are locked in for October 22nd and 23rd at various sporting venues.
Last year was a disappointing year for many involved in athletic competition, and although some protocols remain in place, after a six-year absence due to budget cuts, the Special Olympics in New York State Fall games will return and take place once again in Glens Falls.
According to a news release from the NYS Special Olympics the 2021 Fall Games will celebrate two important parts of the annual competition, the coaches and the fans.
Stacey Hengsterman President and CEO of Special Olympics New York said in the release “This will be our first Fall Games since we last held them in Glens Falls in 2015, and the first statewide competition we’re able to host in person since before the global health pandemic. I know I speak for our entire community when I say – thank you, Glens Falls!”
The Competition will return with activity protocols that require at least 80% of event participants be vaccinated for the COVID-19 virus, unvaccinated may result in limitations and proof of vaccination will be required for all coaches and volunteers who attend the games.
The New York State Fall Games will include Cross-country running, soccer, bocce, golf, cycling, equestrian and softball.
