NYS Police Operation Hardhat Initiative in Tioga County
New York State Police working alongside Department of Transportation Road Crews are looking to make motorists aware of work zones and the state’s Move Over Law.
Troopers were set up April 11 along a stretch of Route 17 in the Town of Owego near where D.O.T. worker Matt Howe was killed by a distracted driver in March of 2019.
Operation Hardhat is a regular initiative where State Police officers wear reflective vests and hardhats in work zones to crack down on dangerous and reckless behavior.
During yesterday’s detail, Troopers wrote sixteen tickets. Three of those tickets were for speeding and two for using a hand-held cell phone while driving.
