NY Comptroller Audits Main Endwell School Employee Leave

The New York State Comptroller’s office says the Maine-Endwell Central School District in a recent audit was found to have some issues with employee leave.

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says auditors found  inconsistent time keeping records and leave used wasn’t always deducted from leave accrual records. Officials said a test of 69 employees found 12 days, valued at $3,700 were not deducted from employees' leave accruals.

The audit also said the District didn’t always make sure leave forms were filed or checked the legitimacy of leave taken. The Comptroller’s office says the District may have paid as much as $14,200 dollars for the cost of substitute employees for unsupported and potentially inappropriate leave taken.

Finally, the report concluded not all time taken by employees was in line with collective bargaining agreements.

DiNapoli’s office recommended more oversight of the people responsible for leave accrual records.

The District is also encouraged to look at a more streamlined system.

The report said Maine Endwell officials generally agreed with the recommendations and planned corrective action.
