Broome County reports two new deaths from the coronavirus pandemic and Tioga County's death toll continues a steep climb.

The news comes even as the Southern Tier Region prepares to reopen to some businesses from the NY on PAUSE orders that were issued in mid-March.

Broome County officials say a man in his 80s and a woman in her 90s died on May 10.  hat brings the deaths from the coronavirus in Broome County to 25.  The County also added two more positive test results, bringing the total of identified coronavirus infections to 373.

Meanwhile, Tioga County's death toll has jumped from 14 a week ago to 20.  All but one of  those death have been at the Elderwood Nursing Home in Waverly.

Tioga County reported 14 deaths from May 3-6, 15 on May 7 & 8, 16 on May 9, 18 May 10 and two more deaths May 11.  There are 117 confirmed cases of the coronavirus to date in Tioga County.

Chenango County has had 109 cases and 4 deaths while Delaware County reports 75 total cases and 4 deaths, both counties unchanged over the past several days.

Cortland County, which falls in the Central New York Region and is not under the first round of regions cleared by the state for partial reopening, reports 33 cases and one death.

New York State has reported the new death toll from the pandemic under 200 for the first time since it began in mid-Mach.  Governor Andrew Cuomo May 11 reported 161 new deaths bringing the statewide total to 21,640 New Yorkers who have lost their lives in the pandemic.
