The historic Binghamton firehouse that was home to "Number 5" restaurant for decades now is fully leased as a redevelopment project nears completion.

The former restaurant site and neighboring South Side properties were acquired in 2020.

Developer Brett Pritchard has transformed the site into Number 5 Commons. The first businesses - a Mirabito convenience store and a Peoples Security Bank and Trust office - opened last September.

Pritchard says three tenants will lease space on the first floor of the old firehouse building. They include Simply Tan, Project Lean Nation and an insurance advising office.

Offices for Pritchard's development business and three other companies now occupy the second floor of the former restaurant.

The remaining space in a neighboring building on South Washington Street also has been leased. Simple Form Pilates and a massage therapist will occupy the second floor of the building that once housed the La Tazza coffeehouse.

Common Soil Juicery and Brix Barber Company launched operations in March on the first floor of the building.

Pritchard unveiled his plans for the commercial and retail project in November 2019. He says he's pleased that he has met the goal of having the site fully leased by this summer.
