The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from 1 p.m. Saturday, January 19 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 20.  The Watch also includes the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania.

Officials say heavy snow is expected for the weekend with total snow accumulations of 12 to 20 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 35 miles per hour.

NOAA says the watch area includes Broome, Tioga, Cortland, Chenango Delaware, Tompkins, Otsego and Oneida Counties along with much of central and northern New York and in Pennsylvania, Bradford, Susquehanna and Wayne counties.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible during and immediately after the snow storm. Also, winds will pick up considerably Sunday afternoon, causing blowing snow and possible dangerously low wind chills into Sunday night.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
