Hendrick Motorsports released a statement this morning to announce that driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. is sidelined for the NASCAR Charlotte and Kansas races. Seems he got a concussion in the wild Talladega race last Sunday.

This changes everything. Dale was consistent in the last half of the season leading up to the Chase and looked to gain footing at Talladega.  Until the last lap crash, which took out 20 cars, took out Dale's chances of a Chase Championship.

Ok, so maybe not a Championship, but we can dream right? Dale is currently in eleventh place, 51 points behind points leader Brad Keselowski, in the Chase. Statistically he's still in, but not by much.

Regan Smith will substitute for Earnhardt, Jr at Charlotte and Kansas.

How will this change the Championship Chase for you? Can Regan do a good job filling these shoes?

We'll find out after the checkers wave at Charlotte!
