My Take on ‘Rocket Man’
With the threat of rain in the forecast Saturday, Chris and I decided to go see the Elton John movie 'Rocketman'. We grabbed some popcorn and soda and sat through over 20 minutes of previews before the movie finally started.
Going in I was expecting more of a straight-forward movie along the lines of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Just a couple minutes into the movie, I started to wonder if I was watching the cast from 'Glee'.
Throughout the whole movie they take Elton John songs and turn them into musical dance numbers. At times it was more like a Broadway musical instead of a movie. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of movie scenes in it, but there was also a lot of choreographed dancing and singing which had me shaking my head.
I had somebody ask me if it was as good as 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and my initial response was not even close. It wasn't a bad movie but I didn't think it was a great movie either.
If you are a fan of the movie 'Grease', you will probably really enjoy this. I could have done without the choreographed dance numbers. I think they should have just kept it to a serious movie.
The movie itself is very deep at times, but if you are familiar with Elton John's career, you should really be expecting that going in.
