One of those charities is the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse.  CHOW Director, Jack Seman is the guest on this week's local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, to talk about the tournament, which helps the local hunger abatement group put thousand of meals on residents' tables.

Seman says the nature of the Binghamton-area community makes it a natural choice for celebrated original member of The Black Aces baseball team, Jim "Mudcat" Grant, to make the fundraising tournament part of his legacy.

The contest at Hiawatha Landing August 29th features sports and other celebrities, prizes and visits to senior centers, youth groups and hospitals.

In addition to CHOW, the tournament, made possible every year by Security Mutual Life in Binghamton, benefits the Broome County Urban League, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Binghamton and Catholic Charities with a special fundraising contest to support homeless veterans in Broome County.

More information about the tournament, sponsors and donating local prizes can be found at www.allstar-golf.com.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Sunday at 6 a.m. on 99.1 The Whale.
