Motley Crue may have more chance of entering the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame than the band members themselves believe, a new poll suggests.

Visitors to the hall’s museum in Cleveland, who have the opportunity to vote in the Voice Your Choice campaign, have put the band in the No. 1 spot ahead of Blink-182, Iron Maiden, the Dave Matthews Band and Weezer.

Citing the Crue biopic The Dirt as the source of their surge in popularity, Cleveland.com reported that Stevie Nicks’ induction as a solo artist earlier this year came after she topped the Voice Your Choice poll – even though Rock Hall executives denied a connection between the two events. “Though, it does seem like a strange coincidence since she’d never been nominated before as a solo artist,” the report noted.

Drummer Tommy Lee shared the article on Twitter, commenting, “Let’s go kids!” Only those who visit the museum can submit in the Voice Your Choice poll. It’s not directly associated with the Rock Hall fan vote, which is open globally in the run-up to each year’s awards.

Earlier this year, bassist Nikki Sixx claimed his band had been blackballed by the Rock Hall. “I was actually doing an interview with Tommy a couple of weeks ago, and we were asked if we would ever play together again,” he recalled.

“Tommy said, ‘I don’t know. Maybe if we got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or something, we could dust off a couple of our old classics.’ I was, like, ‘Really?’ And he said, ‘Why not?’ But we don’t have any plans because we were told by the Hall of Fame that we would never get in, because of how we’ve acted, so that’s kind of it.”

While providing the Top 10 as it currently stands, the new report also suggested that Blink-182 could retake the lead position when “a ton of pop-punk fans flock to the museum this summer for the Warped 25th anniversary concert on June 8.”
