Milk, White, Dark and Now… Ruby Chocolate!

One day a few months ago, my father-in-law let my two-year-old have a taste of chocolate and from that was born a mini chocolate fiend.

Now, whenever we take John to a store that has chocolate on display, he calls out "chalk-it, chalk-it!" and his face lights up with the biggest ear to ear grin. It's so hard not to cave in and buy it for him each time, but we've got to stick our ground and teach him about moderation and healthy habits.

However, when Valentine's Day rolls around, I already know what we'll be gifting our boy with...he'll be getting ruby colored chocolate. Naturally ruby colored, not artificially dyed.

For the last 80 years, the world has known chocolate to be milk, white, and dark, but there's a new player in town. A new type of cocoa bean has been found and it produces a ruby colored chocolate and the world is pretty excited about this new discovery.

According to Bustle, a Swiss chocolate company named Barry Callebaut is the first to take the new cocoa bean and run with it, making what they say is the first natural "ruby chocolate" that the world has ever laid eyes on.

This new chocolate is said to have a fruity taste and is expected to land on store shelves early next year, just in time for Valentine's Day.
