Next year marks the 50th anniversary of Grand Funk Railroad's formation. The band's former singer Mark Farner is hardly slowing down. He’s even got a brand new single and video, “Can’t Stop."

A stint at the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp put Farner in touch with a group of musicians that ended up collaborating with him on the track. “They were Grand Funk fans that really loved the band and they knew all of my stuff," Farner tells UCR. "Being that they were players, I’m friendly to players anyway. They’re my cousins, all of these players, we’re related somehow. They sounded good to me and they had a song they were working on that was an original.”

Farner and the group reunited at a subsequent Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp, and not long after that, guitarist Ken Van Wegenen got in touch. “He had an idea," Farner recalls. "He said, ‘Mark, we are working on a video and you came to mind because it’s your kind of song. We were inspired by your music when we were young and this is what we came up with, and we would like to have you come out and sing the song.’”

You can watch the "Can't Stop" video -- an exclusive premiere -- below.

“Can’t Stop” sounds appropriately vintage to Farner’s Grand Funk roots. While the video has a humorous angle, it also demonstrates that he and his new group have definite chemistry. He readily admits that he’d welcome the opportunity to work on additional songs with the new collaborators.

“If they wanted me to do more, I would do more in a heartbeat, because it was so much fun,” he says. “I mean, if they wanted to do one regularly, I’d be on it with them, because they’re just great guys to work with and I thank God that they picked me at Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp to be their counselor."

For the moment, Farner will continue to play shows with his regular solo group, which is billed as Mark Farner’s American Band and says fans can look forward to another new release in the near future, including a "a live DVD and CD from Santiago, Chile. We’re calling it Mark Farner: From Chile, With Love.”

He’ll preview the upcoming release with a video that draws on live footage of the Grand Funk classic “Rock ‘N Roll Soul” that was captured during the Chile show. But it’s not just a normal performance clip.

“The guy who did the production in Chile on the video did this single by himself without [any help]," he explains. "He made it look like it’s [set in] California! [With] American flags, a Camaro [and] the girl riding on the horse next to him on the beach. It’s killer!”
