A Queens resident who loves the restaurant business moved to Binghamton and now has set up a dining establishment in Vestal.

Jabber Bawa opened Caffè del Corso in the Campus Plaza a few days ago. He said it's located in space that most recently had been occupied by a salon and a Vietnamese restaurant.

Bawa said he's been involved with restaurants all his life, working his way up from his start as a server to management positions.

Bawa said as New York City was becoming "more dangerous," he chose to move to Broome County. He said he has a sister who lives in Vestal.

Shortly after buying a home in Binghamton in late 2020, Bawa said he began looking for a spot to start a restaurant. He signed the lease for the space in the commercial complex along the Vestal Parkway last March. He spent several months getting the place ready. He said he "designed everything."

Bawa said Caffè del Corso has been "getting a great, great response" from its first diners.

The restaurant offers a limited menu that includes grilled chicken and salmon, along with sautéed shrimp. Bawa said "everything is fresh and made to order."

Caffè del Corso is open everyday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bawa said the operating hours may be adjusted in the future.
