Man Accused of Threatening to Kill Cortland County Family of Four
A Cinncinatus man is under arrest on numerous charges after allegedly making threats that put law enforcement officers all over the Southern Tier on high alert.
November, 21, the Cortland County Sheriff's Office received a report of a man threatening to kill a couple and their 7 and 8 year old children at their home on property the suspect owns on Chenango Sodus Pond Road in the Town of Cuyler.
New York State Police and authorities in surrounding counties, including Broome were alerted shortly after 9:30 a.m. that 31-year-old Michael Debottis may be armed with a high-power rifle, had threatened the family and was believed to be a danger to law enforcement officers.
The Cortland County Sheriff's Office reports Debottis was arrested later in the day and charged with felony counts of reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon as well as misdemeanor menacing and two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was released to the custody of Alternatives to Incarceration, with an Order of Protection issued. Debottis is to appear in Town of Cuyler Court next month. There were no injuries.
