The Maine-Endwell Spartans baseball team fell to the Ballston Spa Scotties13-6 in the NYSPHSAA Class A championship played at Binghamton University on Saturday.  The Spartans fell behind early and could not overcome a powerful Ballston Spa offensive attack.  The Scotties scored three runs in the first inning and added an additional five spot in the second inning and never looked back.

Ballston Spa from Section 2 had advanced to the championship round by defeating the Sayville Golden Flashes 10-0 in Friday's semifinal round.  The Spartans moved to the final game with a 5-4 win over Canandaigua on Friday.

The Scotties big blow came in the first inning on a two-run home run by Chance Checca.  For the Spartans Jack McFadden led the way with three hits while Michael Mancini had a pair of hits.

Despite the disappointment of losing the championship game Matt Raleigh's Spartans provided their fans with plenty of excitement along the way.  They earned two dramatic walk-of wins to get to the state's final four and took it to the final game before falling just short.  Raleigh's guidance and dedication became even more evident when he threw struggling hitter Josh Chandler 45 minutes of batting practice before the Spartans assembled to travel to NYSEG Stadium on the way to their victory over Roosevelt in the quarterfinals.  Chandler proceeded to hit the walk-off three-run home run to give the Spartans an 8-5 win and send them into the semifinal round.
