Local Red Cross Fire Alarm Installation Featured on Southern Tier Close Up

The director of the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross, Colleen McCabe is on this weekend's edition of the local public affairs program Southern Tier Close Up as National Red Cross Month winds down.

McCabe talks about how local volunteers assist with many areas including installing smoke alarms, comforting victims of disaster and safety education and how the Red Cross even helps members of the military in personal emergency situations.

The Red Cross is often on the scene of house fires, assisting residents who are displaced but, McCabe says coming up April 27-May12, chapters are making a special push to install free smoke alarms for families and educate residents about fire safety and evacuation plans.  McCabe says the detectors being installed meet the new requirements that take effect April 1 that smoke alarms must have 10-year, non-removable lithium batteries and the program actually runs year-round.
