Syndem of Binghamton, SunDesnity of Vestal and Cortland Research in Homer are among 19 vying for six, $2.5 million prizes for entrepreneurs building clean energy businesses and economic development.

The competition, which is one of the largest in the country focusing on clean energy, looks to help innovators, investors, educators and startups use their technologies to expand green initiatives.

NYSERDA says the final winners will be announced in the fall.

For now, the 19 semifinalists, that were picked from a pool of 169 applicants in 14 countries and 21 states, are being paired with a mentor before pitching their companies to a panel of judges August 7 and 8 at Binghamton University.
