The Kinks' "Sunny Afternoon" peaked at number 14 on the pop singles chart. (Ironically it was raining that day)

In 1967
Pink Floyd arrived in New York to kick off its first U.S. tour. (I used to love the way he cut Andy Taylor's hair)

The BBC launched Radio One, a rock and roll station.

In 1969
The Beatles' album "Abbey Road" was released in the U.S.

In 1970
Jimi Hendrix was buried in Seattle, Washington. (I'm not dead, yet)

In 1973
Elton John released the album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road."

In 1974
Kiss released the album "Hotter Than Hell." (And it was smokkkinnnnn)

In 1976
New album releases included Led Zeppelin's "The Song Remains the Same," Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band's "Night Moves," and Ted Nugent's self-titled effort.

In 1977

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' "I Hate Myself For Loving You" peaked at number eight on the pop singles chart.

Bon Jovi's "Bad Medicine" broke into the Top 40.

In 1989
Tom Petty made an appearance on the TV show "It's Garry Shandling's Show."

In 1998
John Fogerty received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In 2003
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band launched the first of three shows at New York's Shea Stadium to wrap up the group's tour in support of the album "The Rising."  Police refused to give Springsteen an escort following the show because he performed "American Skin (41 Shots)," a song about a controversial police shooting.

In 2004
The Vote For Change tour officially began with a series of shows in Pennsylvania.  The Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, R.E.M., John Fogerty, and Bright Eyes were among the performers.

In 2005
The Pixies were the headliner for the Brooklyn installment of the two-day Across the Narrows Festival in New York.  The Killers, New York Dolls, and Interpol also performed.

In 2006
The Chevy Truck ad campaign featuring John Mellencamp's "Our Country" began its run on TV.

In 2009
Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood's new clothing line created in partnership with Liberty of London arrived at the British department store.  The collection features three of the classic rocker's paintings which have been printed onto various fabrics and featured on t-shirts and dresses as well as accessories such as scarves, wallets, and duffel bags.

Elton John's memoir was issued in hardcover while Ozzy Osbourne's autobiography "I Am Ozzy" was published in the UK.

In 2010
Iggy Pop and Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell were among the performers at the first of two We Are Plastic Ono Band concerts in Los Angeles.  The shows were part of a tribute for the late John Lennon to commemorate what would have been his 70th birthday.

In 2011
Gene Simmons married Shannon Tweed, his partner of 28 years, in a lavish ceremony in Beverly Hills.  Simmons bandmate Paul Stanley stood up for Simmons, while Gene and Shannon's 19-year-old daughter, Sophie, was her mom's maid of honor. (and the wedding was... smokkkinnnnnn)
