It could turn out to be a long, hot summer for Johnson City residents who like to spend some time in the pool.

The wading pool at Floral Avenue Park on the village's South Side won't be open this year.

Mayor Greg Deemie said there have been mechanical problems and other issues with the pool in recent years. The pool occasionally was closed for repairs over the past two seasons.

The pool has had pump and chlorination issues, as well as problems with leaks.

Village officials are debating what steps will be taken regarding the pool. Deemie said repair work needed for the facility would be very expensive.

The mayor said replacing the old pool may not be feasible. He said it's possible the village may opt to install a spray park, similar to the facility that now exists at CFJ Park.

Johnson City's Northside Pool was removed a few years ago because repair work to reopen it was deemed to be too costly.
