A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a Johnson City resident.

Authorities say 23-year-old Spencer Chapman of Johnson City faces three felony charges following the incident at a Baldwin Street residence.

Investigators say a 24-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his right side. He was taken by a Union Volunteer Emergency Squad ambulance to the nearby Wilson Medical Center. He was treated and released.

Police were called to 215 Baldwin Street just before 3 p.m. Thursday. Officers found a man had been shot in the hip.

Officers and detectives interviewed people in the area of Baldwin Street, Corliss Avenue and St. Charles Street to determine what happened that culminated in the shooting.

People inside the Baldwin Street home were questioned by investigators. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence. According to a news release, they "were able to recover evidence pertinent" to the shooting.

Chapman has been charged with criminal use of a firearm and two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was processed and taken to Broome County Jail in the town of Dickinson to await arraignment.

Police say he is under supervision by state officials for a previous assault conviction.
