John Mellencamp Buys $2.3 Million ‘Live-Work Space’ in Manhattan
It isn't a pink house and it certainly isn't in a small town, but John Mellencamp has added to his real estate portfolio by spending $2.3 million on a "stylishly renovated," 1,800-square-foot space in Manhattan.
According to The Real Deal, Mellencamp's new loft was purchased from photographer Antoine Verglas, who had bought it for $1.215 million in 2011. The two-bedroom, two-bath listing had been on the market for some time — the Deal report notes that Verglas had been trying to part with it since 2015, when he put it up for sale at an asking price of $3.15 million.
Variety reports that Mellencamp's purchase of the live-work loft, which boasts a first-floor location in "an historic cast-iron building," is just the latest in a series of pricey property investments he's made over the years. In addition to owning multiple homes in the Bloomington, Ind., area — among them a 35-acre estate with an 8,000-square-foot lakefront mansion — he also maintains an oceanfront residence on Daufuskie Island off the coast of South Carolina, purchased in 1994 for less than $950,000.
Mellencamp may get to spend some quality time in his new Manhattan pad over the coming months — after completing his 2017 tour in support of last year's Sad Clowns and Hillbillies LP, he appears to be content to keep a lower profile this year, and according to his official site, he doesn't have any live dates currently scheduled. Mellencamp's daughter Teddi Jo, however, is a different story: As previously reported, she recently joined the cast of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
