CNY Native and Former Foghat Bassist Jeff Howell Is Fighting for His Life
UPDATE: 3-6-22 - We received word that Jeff Howell passed away on March 5th. You can read the condolences and add your own through the Jeff Howell Facebook Page. The Go Fund Me fundraiser to help with medical bills continues with a goal of $20,000.
When it comes to rock-n-rollers that made it to the big stage who hail from the Southern and Central Tiers of New York State, we are proud to say that we know of a few. For example, Joe Bonamassa is from New Hartford, which is just outside of Utica. Jon Fishman from the group Phish grew up in Syracuse, Ronnie James Dio hailed from Cortland, and of course, Fred Coury from Cinderella grew up in Johnson City.
We've had local rockers who have become an integral part of major rock bands as well in their careers. One of those people is Jeff Howell, a bass guitarist who is a Newfield, NY native (which is just outside of Ithaca.) You may also remember Jeff as a member of the rock band 'Acts,' which played in the Binghamton area many times. The band also had gigs up and up and down the eastern seaboard of the U.S.
Jeff also played for several major rock bands. Credits listed on his website include Savoy Brown, the Outlaws, and Foghat. Jeff returned home to the Southern Tier of New York in 1996 and since has remained active in the music scene including giving bass instruction.
In 2013, Jeff was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and has continued to fight through it along with other medical issues ever since. A fundraiser was recently established through Go Fund Me, to help with Jeff's medical bills with a goal of reaching $20,000 dollars.
Visit the Go Fund Me page for the fundraiser for more information and to donate, and visit his website for all his accomplishments to the world of music.
