Winter Storm Brings Parking Tickets in Binghamton
As the City of Binghamton prepares for the impending winter storm conditions, Mayor Jared Kraham announced that the Binghamton Police Department handed out 97 parking tickets on Tuesday night.
The City of Binghamton's alternate side parking rules went into effect on December 1st, but apparently not everybody in the area got the message. It should be second nature to most Binghamton lifers, who are well familiar with the requirements for keeping the roads drivable in the harsh upstate New York winters. And we've all had about two weeks to get used to the alternate side parking rules again this year.
Binghamton Alternate Side Parking Rules
According to the City of Binghamton's website, alternate side parking rules allow the city to safely clear the local roads of snow. On even calendar days, Binghamton residents can park only on the even side of streets until 5:00 pm. On odd calendar days, residents can only park on the odd side of the street until 5:00 pm. The parking change occurs at 5:00 pm each day and lasts for 24 hours. The rules also apply to City streets with parking on only one side.
The City of Binghamton also encourages residents to keep their vehicles off the street if they can so that snow plows and emergency crews can keep the roads clear.
Tough break for those 97 drivers who woke up to a rough surprise this morning, but we need to keep the roads nice and clear for the plows so I don't have to worry too much about getting to work before the crack of dawn on Friday morning.
