The incident happened around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday in the westbound lanes of Route 434 between Airborne Avenue and the Route 26 exit ramp.

Crews have been milling and paving a section of the busy parkway this week. The work is being done with single-lane traffic being maintained through the work zone.

According to Vestal police, initial reports indicated the woman who was a flagger in the work zone was knocked down by a sweeper that was backing up. The equipment then apparently continued over the worker.

The injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. The woman's name and the company she was employed by were not released by police.

Milling operations in the work zone resumed shortly after the worker was hurt.

A state Department of Transportation spokesperson said the agency is gathering information on what happened and had "no further comment at this time."
