Parkway Progress: Vestal Quality Inn and Fuji San Coming Down
A part of Vestal's history is disappearing as demolition crews continue to knock down a hotel complex that was home to a popular Japanese restaurant.
A $70 million student housing complex is to be constructed on the Vestal Parkway site across from the Binghamton University campus.
Workers from Gorick Construction last month started to demolish the 75,000-square-foot structure which originally served as a Holiday Inn.
The place most recently operated as a Quality Inn & Suites lodging facility. Fuji San Japanese Restaurant had been located at the site for 23 years. The hotel and restaurant closed last May.
Aptitude Development of New Jersey acquired the property from Gokulish Hospitality of Connecticut in June. Real estate records indicate the purchase price was $10 million.
A 516-bed residential facility for students is planned for the site. The new building will have about 257,000 square feet of useable space.
Developer Jared Hutter told WNBF News Wednesday that he expects construction of the complex will start this fall. He anticipates the project will be completed in mid-2027.
WNBF NEWS VIDEO: Work continued at the project site on September 3, 2025.
