Tractor Supply Company Plans to Open Apalachin Store
A national chain that sells home improvement and agricultural merchandise is preparing to expand into Tioga County.
Tennessee-based Tractor Supply Company plans to open a store on Route 434 in Apalachin. It would be located just east of the village of Owego.
The 22,000-square-foot store is to be built on a vacant eight-acre site between Aramark Uniform Services and a self-storage facility.
Tractor Supply has received the needed local approvals to move forward with the store project.
Owego town supervisor Donald Castellucci said he believes the final issue the company needs to address is how water will be supplied to site.
Tractor Supply has indicated it intends to connect to the Veolia private community water system that runs just east of the store's location.
Construction, which could get underway early next year, is expected to take ten months to complete.
Tractor Supply Company now operates about 2,250 stores in 49 states. Its first store in the Binghamton area opened in 2002 on the Vestal Parkway. The company opened a second Broome County store in 2018 on Upper Front Street in the town of Chenango.
