Two Men Charged in Town of Chenango Road Rage Case
Authorities say two Broome County residents have been arrested after a driver reported a passenger flashed a handgun during a road rage incident.
According to a Broome County Sheriff's Office news release issued Wednesday, the dispute started on Upper Front Street in the town of Chenago.
A person called 911 to report the operator of a pickup truck had been driving aggressively and started tailgating their vehicle.
The pickup driver allegedly made threats while a passenger displayed what was described as a "Glock-style" handgun. The passenger reportedly threatened to shoot the people in the other vehicle in the head.
The driver who was threatened sped off and made a U-turn on Upper Front Street while the passenger made a call to report the incident.
The pickup truck followed the other vehicle onto Bishop Road. The truck wound up in a ditch as the other car drove away.
Sheriff's deputies found the pistol believed to have been used in the incident. It turned out to be a realistic-looking air pistol.
Investigators said the man who had been driving the truck - 19-year-old Jake E. Felter of Castle Creek - was charged with DWI, reckless endangerment and multiple traffic violations.
The passenger - 19-year-old Dante M. Gage-Phillips of Whitney Point - was charged with tampering with physical evidence, menacing and reckless endangerment.
An extreme risk protection order also was filed for Gage-Phillips.
