A couple of Syracuse residents are facing numerous charges in Broome County after Sheriff’s Deputies say they led authorities on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle through the City of Binghamton, Town of Vestal and back into Binghamton.

The wild ride began when a Sergeant of the Broome County Sheriff’s office saw the vehicle, that had been reported stolen in Syracuse, driving south on Upper Front Street in the Town of Dickinson at 4:20 a.m. on August 21.


The Sheriff’s office says the Sergeant attempted to make a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle which fled the scene.

The officer gave chase into the City of Binghamton, Town of Vestal and back into the City of Binghamton where the pursuit was terminated due to the reckless driving of the stolen vehicle in the populous area of the City.

A short time later, the same Sergeant came across a crash involving the stolen vehicle and another car at the intersection of Court and Water Streets in the City of Binghamton.

The Sheriff’s office says the passenger in the stolen vehicle, 26-year-old Morgan Schoonmaker was apprehended as he tried flee on foot. 31-year-old Corey Murry was arrested a short time later.

Authorities say the crash resulted in non-life-threatening injuries.

Murry is charged with felony counts of Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Assault and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. He’s also charged with misdemeanor and vehicle and traffic law counts of Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving, Speeding, Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, Driving Without a License and Inadequate Muffler.

Schoonmaker is charged with felony Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and misdemeanor Resisting Arrest.
