Susquehanna County ATV Crash Leaves New Jersey Man Seriously Hurt

Pennsylvania State Police say a New Jersey man is hospitalized with serious injuries after crashing an all-terrain vehicle in Susquehanna County Friday evening, August 26.

Troopers say 61-year-old Robert Macon of Bayonne was driving the ATV south on Lester Road at the intersection with Hamlin Road in Forest Lake Township at around quarter of 7 when he failed to negotiate a turn and lost control.

Authorities say Macon’s Yamaha Kodiak overturned and Macon was thrown from the vehicle.

The New Jersey man was airlifted from the scene by the Guthrie Life Flight helicopter.

Troopers say he was taken to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, in Bradford County, for medical treatment.

The extent and nature of Macon’s injuries have not been released but authorities say they suspected serious injury.

Troopers were assisted on the scene by the Forest Lake Fire Department as well as a crew from the Montrose Minutemen ambulance squad and Guthrie Life Flight.

Authorities say Lester Road in the area of Hamlin Road was closed for a time during the initial investigation but there was no significant impact to traffic.

The crash remains under investigation.

The news release from the Pennsylvania State Police did not mention whether Macon had been wearing a helmet.  The weather conditions at the time of the crash at 6:43 p.m. Friday, August 26 were dry and the incident apparently happened about a half-hour before sunset.

The authorities have indicated that Macon could be ticketed in connection with the rollover crash.  The report from the State Police notes the primary violation was “Operation (of the ATV) on Streets and Highways.”
