New Child Care Options Coming To SUNY Community Colleges

Are you a college student and also a parent? Child care services are a great help when attempting to juggle studies and bring up a child.

Today, March 12, 2026, an expansion of child care services at 11 SUNY community colleges in New York State was announced by Governor Kathy Hochul.

These services, according to the announcement, will include evenings and weekends, designed to align with the schedules of student-parents who are enrolled in high-demand programs.

Governor Hochul noted that this initiative was the successful result of the extension of programs at Dutchess Community College and Monroe Community College. Both colleges experienced a strong immediate reaction from campuses across the state.

Child Care Services Expanding at Five SUNY Community Colleges

One of the five SUNY community college campuses is SUNY Broome Community College, where additional care hours will be created during the evening, which will help those student-parents who attend evening classes.

The other four include Dutchess Community College, adding two additional weeknights of evening hours and expanding slots for infants and toddlers, Finger Lakes Community College, extending evening hours two days a week, Monroe Community College, adding 16 additional hours during evenings plus creating additional slots for infants and toddlers, and Onondaga Community College partnering with the local YMCA, providing evening child care spots for adult learners enrolled through SUNY Reconnect.

SUNY Community Colleges Offering Additional Spots For Infants And Toddlers

Six SUNY Community Colleges in New York State will be creating additional spots for infants and toddlers. They include Tompkins-Cortland Community College, located in Dryden, along with Jamestown Community College, Nassau Community College, SUNY Niagara Community College, Rockland Community College, and SUNY Westchester Community College.

Student-parents should be able to focus on their studies without having to worry about finding safe and affordable child care. The expansion of the child care programs across SUNY’s community colleges will work to remove barriers, so all of our students can receive the support they need to pursue the education of their dreams.
